First things first. If you decide upon a wood bin for your next trash can, you need to consider all the different types of wood available to you. Oak and hickory are probably the two most common choices for wooden trash cans, but pine is an excellent choice as well. It’s not always necessary for these bins to be made completely of wood. Often they can come equipped with a metal rim, often made from brass, though you can opt for a higher quality metal if you wish.
What size should you get?
The answer to this depends on several factors. One important consideration is how much trash are you planning to produce? Larger families usually need a larger bin than a single person. It is also important to consider where you will be using your waste container. Wooden waste bins can be used in a wide variety of locations. Outdoor wooden trash cans need to be sturdier and larger than their indoor counterparts. Country wooden trash cans are one of my favorite choices for a stylish down-home feel out on the porch. If you are looking for a bin for your study or bathroom, there are many wooden decorative trash cans to choose from. These often look much better than a white plastic or flimsy waste-paper basket. If you are an ardent recycler, a wood double trash bin may be right up your alley. This allows you to keep your garbage and your recyclable material separate, while still maintaining the elegance that wooden trash cans provide.
If you really want to go all out, consider handcrafted wood trash cans. These can range from a simple but unique piece of carpentry, all the way up to an ornately decorated work of art. In addition to finding many of these on the market, you can often hire a carpenter or an artist to create one of these to your specifications. This is definitely one of the advantages that wood has over plastic or metal. It is hard to order a unique trash can if you are dealing with those more contemporary materials. Wood has a timeless feel to it. It is what people have been using for thousands of years prior to our usage of steel, and especially our use of plastic within the last century.
Your options for wooden trash cans are more wide open than any other waste bin type. The best recommendation I can give you is to compare a wide range of different manufacturers and even artists. Eventually you’ll be able to find exactly what you’re looking for at a price you’ll feel great about.
